Hey Carlos!
This is Roberta, the News Editor. We’re really working on a tight deadline to get the print version of the paper out, so I need a good writer to write an article about the Quill and Scroll Honor Society’s recycling program.
I chose you because you’re a very passionate writer, and I’m sure you can get good quotes to make recycling sound fun!
I would write about it myself, but I’m VP of Quill and Scroll, so that would make me biased.
Anyway, see Mr. Weiss about the e-mail that Ms. Duval sent him, and you can get quotes from me, Claire Austin, Sarabeth Biechman, Sam Levine, and Ms. Duval. You can also ask 100 wing teachers upstairs about the program – they already got their recycling boxes.
If you need any more help, just leave me a note on my page.

Got your note. And I see you got off to a good start with your planner.
It’s ok if you don’t have the internet at home. You don’t need o do any online research to write this article. Just handwrite it and type it up and put it up on your blog during school.
Well, you’re probably already in Journalism if you’re reading this so hurry and get quotes and write your article if you haven’t already done so!!!!! We need it to send off to the printers THIS WEEK!
FYI: My 7th period is debate in room 428 . Claire is also in my class. She’s the prez and I’m VP. Ms. Duval, our sponsor, is in room 130, if that helps. You can quote us three. I just can’t write the article because I’m involved, but you can quote me.
Oh, and see the e-mail that Mr. Weiss got from Ms. Duval. It also explains what Quill and Scroll is.

Just reminding you to WRITE YOUR ARTICLE!!!
You don’t need to do any internet research to write it. Since you do not have internet, however, please make sure it is up on your blog by the end of school on TUESDAY, otherwise, you would be receiving this note:

YOU’RE IN BIG TROUBLE!
The deadline for your article was on MONDAY (Tuesday for Carlos), but I don’t even see so much as a first draft from you! Mr. Weiss told me that whoever doesn’t have their article in by now is in big trouble. The absolute final deadline to have the articles published in the paper is WEDNESDAY, but we may not meet that deadline now because YOU didn’t turn in your work. Even if you were to post your article to your blog on Wednesday, it would be too late because we were supposed to already have the articles edited, proofread and with sidebars!
Please, next time, stick to the deadline. The fate of a newspaper depends on it.
But still turn it in ASAP!!!! Like, NOW!!!!

Hello News Staff Writers –
We got the first issue out. Whoo! The next print issue is supposed to be out around the middle of January. Before then, we still need to come up with ideas for the online version. This is the hard thing about being a news writer – you can’t really “plan” news. Since we can’t predict the future, it’s kind of hard to pull news stories from out of the air. So what we need to do is get some leads or “beats” about what’s going on around school. I’m going to talk to Mr. Weiss and people in the office on Monday so that we can get some news stories to write about.
Construction is kind of “played out”, as is the FCAT. We already wrote about Staph, and there are no other big scares at school.
There’s going to be an Attendance Pep Rally on the 16th. That’s news that can go up on the site, maybe. And someone could write about the Miami Beach election results.
Anyway, I did come up with three ideas for the January issue, you can check them out on my blog. Maybe they’ll give you inspiration and you guys can work on an investigative journalism piece of your own about a school policy or something like that.
But don’t worry, guys! We’ll get out of this rut. I’ll write you again on Monday, and hopefully I’ll have some leads on potential news stories.

So Carlos…I take it that you want to write about the Tony ALva event/skate party/art thing? You can, but that doesn’t really fall into my (our) News section. You’d have to talk to the ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT (A&E) editor, AshleyM, because that’s more A&E, don’t you agree? Lol.
Anyway, you can write that article…just as long as you still write the news articles assigned to you because I really need all of those articles by all of you guys written so, thanks.!
